Anagram: Year Of The Rhino/Any Thief Or Hero

     Happy New Year

2008 has been eventful.  But it’s over now, or as close to over as to make no difference whatsoever.  Just gonna toss out a few Videos showing some of the best and worst of the year.

Silliest moment of 2008? There are plenty.  Obama visiting all 57 states.  Joe Scarborough dropping the F-bomb live on the air.  McCain calling people at a rally of his  “My Fellow Prisoners”.  The best though?  Hillary under sniper fire.  This was just silly.  Watch our Secretary of State in action.

Worst Moment of 2008?  There are plenty of them here as well, and they all merit attention.  The South Ossetian War.  The Mumbai Attacks.  The Earthquake in China.  Darfur.  The situation in Zimbabwe. But the Worst moment has to be the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis.  Don’t remember that?  Myanmar? The Irrawaddy delta? Over 130,000 dead? Ring any bells?  Watch the Video and thank the lord you don’t live in that shit-hole of a country.

Honorable mention for worst Moment, and the only reason this didn’t win is that the economic forces at work behind it are still at work, and may well turn into the worst moment of 2009.   The economic meltdown.

Best Moment of 2008?  There are plenty.  But here it’s only best if you were on the winning side.  So here goes a short list.  The GiGiantsants beating the Patriots to keep the dream of 18-0 from coming true in New England.   Michael Phelps wins 8 Gold Medals in Beijing.  The Ron Paul Revolution.  But hands down, at least for this Democrat, was the victory of Barack Obama in the General Election over his Republican rival John McCain.  I voted for Gore, and my guy lost.  I voted for Kerry and My guy lost.  Feels good to be on the winning side.  He’s got one helluva road to travel, wish him luck, he’s gonna need it, with things the way they are in America economically right now.

The sound craps out at about the 5 minute mark, but it’s just cheering crowds.  it’s December 31st.  You want to hear cheering crowds, turn on your tv and watch the new years celebrations.

george-carlin     A moment of silence for all those who died this year.  The notable deaths this year were many.  Bo Diddley, Charlton Heston, Isaac Hayes, Tim Russert, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Arthur C. Clarke, Heath Ledger, Harold Pinter and many others besides. Each notable and noteworthy in their own way, but the one that struck me the most this year was a man whom I thought of as one of the funniest, wittiest, most intelligent humans to grace the face of the earth. The world is a better place for his having been here.  I am trying to think of glowing adjectives to describe this man, but rather than do that, lets just listen to the man himself.  Ladies and gentlemen, George Carlin is dead and that SUCKS.  May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008.

And here’s my pick for the best Piece of Music of 2008, a live version of the song “All nightmare long” off of Metallica’s 2008 offering “Death Magnetic”.  Great fuckin Album:

You can argue Shakira and Beyonce and all that other weak ass Dance bullshit, but they both suck.  Great ass don’t mean great music.  Neither one has a voice worth listening to.  Hip hop sucks.  Country? thanks but No thanks.  As far as new music goes, if it ain’t metal, it ain’t worth it. And Metallica is the best metal band, hands down.

That’s it for me.  Happy New Year to one and All!  Later!

Today’s Nuggets:    That’s another complaint of mine – too much use of this prefix “pre”. It’s all over the language now – “pre”-this, “pre”-that, place the turkey in a “pre-heated” oven. It’s ridiculous! There are only two states an oven can possibly exist in: Heated or unheated! “Pre-heated” is a meaningless fucking term! It’s like “pre-recorded” – “This program was pre-recorded.” Well, of course it was pre-recorded! When else are you gonna record it, afterwards? That’s the whole purpose of recording; to do it beforehand! Otherwise it doesn’t really work, does it? “Pre-existing”, “pre-planning”, “pre-screening” – you know what I tell these people? Pre-suck my genital situation! And they seem to understand what I’m talking about…   George Carlin

I believe that despite the enormous odds which exist, unflinching, unswerving, fierce intellectual determination, as citizens, to define the real truth of our lives and our societies is a crucial obligation which devolves upon us all. It is in fact mandatory.
If such a determination is not embodied in our political vision we have no hope of restoring what is so nearly lost to us — the dignity of man.   Harold Pinter

Anagram: Rest And Relaxation/National Sex Trader

Before I get to the politics of the night, I gotta say, sometimes these anagrams are just too good to pass up.  It would not surprise me if “National Sex Trader” turned out to be the name of a Porn Shop somewhere in Manhattan.

It’s amazing what effect a few words can have.  The market was dictionaryeven at about 3 pm, and at this point anything that’s not a loss is a wonderful thing, but it was getting to that point in the day, near the end of trading, that last hour when the market in recent days has taken a hard downward turn.  In comes a story at that point, that President-Elect Obama has picked Timothy Geithner as his Treasury Secretary.  The Market shot up like a rocket on this news.  Apparently the Wall Streeters Like Tim. The Market ended on a major upswing, up almost 500 points on the day.  A 500 point uptick in an hour, on news of the most important cabinet post being filled.  Mister Obama and his people know how to play their cards.

Oh yeah, Larry Summers will be an senior economic advisor to Mr. Obama, and Bill Richardson has been named Commerce Secretary. I wonder what will happen when they have the press conference on Monday announcing them officially. The market should shoot up again, so long as Citigroup or GM don’t crap out at the same time.  That and making sure that Paulson and The President keep their big yaps shut, keep those two quiet and it’ll be fine.   Every time either of these two yutzes speak, the Market takes a dive.  You’d think they’d have figured that out already.

       Maybe they have…..

      Onto other news.

Hillary is said to have accepted the Secretary of State Position.  I still prefer that she stay where she is, but this is her call, and I am sure that she is looking out for not only her own self-interests, but the interests of America as well, and as long as that is her guiding light, I am sure that this can do nothing but be good for America.

Bosnian snipers will be the least of her worries once she accepts, which is supposed to happen after Thanksgiving.

I’m gonna jump on the auto bailout thing again, just for a minute.  Every time I talk to someone about it, two words pop up.

     Private Jets.

Two of the big three have given security policy as a reason they use private jets.  Both GM and Ford’s 800px-bombardier_learjet60_vp-crb_arpCeos are required to take private jets for security purposes.  GM at one point actually had 7, but in a move in September, cut that fleet to five, and have another 2 jets being cut and sold from their fleet, leaving them with only 3. Awwwwwwwwww….

Ford is thinking about selling it’s jets.   It has in fact sold four of it’s jets, and has cut usage of the remaining jets in its fleet roughly in half, according to the Reuters report.  Of the Five jets ford has, two are used by their marketing team and three are used for executive travel.

Is it not decadence to use ANY private jets at this point? Absolutely, but isn’t it just a little late to start worrying about how much extraneous crap these guys have and use?  All it does it points to an evil in the existing culture.  Which demands a change, but the real time for change was years ago. They clearly missed the boat on that, much as they have tried in the last 18+ months to fix things, it is just too little too late.

The Companies need to be saved.  The elitist corporate culture in the face of immense world swallowing debt is what needs to be cut out.  THIS concept (No Jets, no extraneous expenditures) needs to be written into any legislation that goes into giving these three a loan to keep them liquid until they can pull themselves out of the Mire. And it needs to be a one shot loan.  If they come back in 6 months, screw’em.  We can only do so much.  Our pockets are deep, but not infinitely so.  And at this point in time we have less than we have had in a long time, so don’t come knocking twice.  This is a one and done situation.

Or it should be.  One good faith loan, and that’s it.

One last little blurb here, and then we go to the Video and Quotes.

I don’t really have a problem with the whole Gov. Palin doing an interview in front of the guy killing the turkeys.  I have more of a problem with the guy doing it.  Could he not have waited five minutes? I don’t mind seeing them die.  I like turkey, and I didn’t think it was death by lethal injection or old age or something, so the killing doesn’t really bother me. I’m not the squeamish type.  It was the dumbass looking around, KNOWING there is an interview going on, and killing the little bastards anyway.  Did he want to make the news that badly, or was it just a reason to check out the governor’s ass?

It doesn’t matter.  Either way, I’m still eating turkey on Thursday.

Today’s Nuggets, Via Wikiquote :   A hundred years from tonight, another American President will stand in this place and report on the State of the Union. He—or she—(applause)—he or she will look back on a 21st century shaped in so many ways by the decisions we make here and now. So let it be said of us then that we were thinking not only of our time, but of their time; that we reached as high as our ideals; that we put aside our divisions and found a new hour of healing and hopefulness; that we joined together to serve and strengthen the land we love.   President Bill Clinton

The whole idea of revenge and punishment is a childish day-dream. Properly speaking, there is no such thing as revenge. Revenge is an act which you want to commit when you are powerless and because you are powerless: as soon as the sense of impotence is removed, the desire evaporates also.   George Orwell

Anagram: World’s Angriest/Strained Growls

OK, Maybe I’m  not the world’s angriest, I just liked the anagram, and the way the anagram worked.  It’s Evil_Grinabout 9:30 pm when I’m starting this up, and I’m sitting in a semi-dark room listening to the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators game on XM, and the game is going to overtime.  Something isn’t right…wait, I know what it is…too much light…Gimme a sec….Ahhhh, now that the light is off, it’s MUCH better.

Ya know, at this point in my day I am trying to figure out exactly what to go with today, I have a great many stories to choose from.  There is the hockey game (LET’S GO RANGERS), there is at least one report that has Hillary accepting the Sec. of State job, there is the cases that were accepted by the supreme court late last week, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban being accused of insider trading, there is the ongoing Auto Industry bailout saga, The head of the Basque separatist movement finally getting caught, and of course the prerequisite bad news on the economic front, with the market losing another 230 points, and Citigroup getting ready to cut loose 53,000 jobs worldwide.  The cat wants a skritch…Hmmmm….

Because the Hillary story has only popped up on one site, the guardian, a British newspaper, it looks only slightly less than done, and while it may happen, it is a bit premature.  I would not mind her getting the post, but I prefer that she stay my senator, if I’m given the choice…which I’m not.  The Politico is at this point going through lists of people to try and figure out who will take her spot as New York’s junior senator, and I’m not really impressed with any of the candidates they have floated…except Andrew Cuomo.

RANGERS WIN!!!  THEEEEEE RANGERS WIN!  Game winner in the Shootout, and the only goal in the Shootout, by Little Nicky.  OK, i should not call him little Nicky, he is 4 inches taller than I am, but dammit it sounds good, so why Not!

If you want to read my take on the Supreme court stories i was going through, read tomorrow’s http://election-coverage.com, it will post at 7:30 am tomorrow. It covers a case of a stupid Judge in West Virginia who looks like he was bought, and a case involving “Hillary: the Movie” and the F.E.C.

I could give a rats ass about Mark Cuban, but the Billionaire looks like he tried to save himself a few buck (for him) by selling stock in a company based on knowledge that had yet to go public.  Apparently he had gotten information about the Internet search company Mamma.com, and he betrayed that trust and sold his stock in that company based on that knowledge, and that’s a Nono.  Bad basketball team owner.  This might cost him a few million dollars.  No sweat for him though, he’ll still be rich.750px-crushed_saturn

The Auto bailout thing is on hold at this point, seeing how the senate won’t be back in session until Wednesday morning, when the debate will begin in earnest.  If you have Wednesday day off, it will be starting around 10:00 am on C-Span, and I expect the more important bits will play live on regular news programs.  It should be fun.

I know not enough about either ETA (the basque separatist group) or It’s recently arrested titular head, Mikel Garikoitz Aspiazu Rubina, to give you much info about this, except that he was caught in the french town of Cauterets, the second time in the last year that a high ranking member of ETA has been arrested in France.  If there is a cautionary tale in this for the Basques, it is two fold.  One: DON’T BLOW PEOPLE UP.  IT’S RUDE. and Two: DON’T GO TO FRANCE.  They apparently don’t like you.  Might have something to do with the whole killing people and being terrorists thing.  That tends to make people very uptight.  Maybe you should just enjoy the tapas and watch some Foosball instead of being all filled with angst and explosives.

Silly terrorists. Trix is for kids.

I think I’m just gonna go skritch the cat and look up a few domain names, see if I can’t find any good ones cheap.  I’m still thinking about getting my own site, and building it from the ground up.  We’ll see.

I wonder if CNN.NET is open…..Hmmmm  🙂 Get all the really confused web traffic with that one…

A viddy, a few quotes, and I am done.

Since this is Metal Monday, I thought some Live Slayer would go over nice.  Die By the Sword, from Live Undead.  Feel the Love! (technically this isn’t a video, it’s just a picture of the album cover and the song, but it’s on youtube, and that’s good enough for me.)

That’s It for me.  Later! Damn! It’s almost 11:00 o’clock!  Took my sweet ass time with this one!

Anagram: Coffee In The Dark/Fake Rhino Defect

I am sitting here, drinking coffee in the dark at 10:00pm, the only light in the room coming from the screen I’m looking at as i write. The light illuminates the dirt on my glasses. I want to clean theducreuxyawnm, but I think i can wait a few minutes, it’s not that much of a distraction, and plus, they are never really 100% clean.  I have very oily skin, and it always makes a mess of my glasses.  You get used to it after a few decades.   I am listening to my radio…well actually I’m listening to XM, I have the new Sinatra channel on, listening to Frank at this point in my day.  I’d listen to metal but it would distract me from writing.  I’d listen to Politics or news, but I would pay too close attention to it, and it would draw me away from my main objective, writing these words.

I woke up at just before 4:00pm, after going to sleep at 11:45 am or so.  I watch the DJIA Drop like a stone in the last few minutes of the trading day.  I woke up, and it had already had fallen two hundred or so points from the days highs.  I went to the bathroom, and when I came back, after about…I dunno, a minute and a half, it had dropped another 100 points.  100 points in 90 seconds.  Call it $125,000,000,000 worth of stock, lost in the time it takes to go to the bathroom.

That’s one expensive piss.  That’s me, pissing away America’s future.   🙂

    A short commentary.

I happen to think that Hillary Clinton is an excellent senator, and I would like to see her continue in that role, but I, like the rest of the world, have heard the rumors of Senator Clinton being offered the  post of Clinton - ObamaSecretary of State.  I have also heard the rumor floating around that Bill Richardson has been offered the same spot, and that many of the top cabinet posts are being offered to the most high profile members of the Democratic party, with most, if not all of them being from the legislative branch.  Mister President-Elect, I advise against this course of action, for one reason.  I would not like to see you essentially purge the party of it’s best brains in the legislature, and fill the void left their with appointees, and making for the possibility of several special elections to fill H.R. seats.  Now I know that it can’t be helped that some top people will come from within the ranks of the legislative branch.  I don’t have an issue with that, I have a problem with the fact that most of the names I am hearing are from this branch, and I am worried that it will hurt the house and senate by taking out it’s best brains.

I guess that I’m just the cautious type when it comes to governance.  I’m sure the man has a handle on things.

    Next Up.

I’m about to call it a night I think.  I am tired, and I want nothing more than to sleep right now.  It’s all i can do to keep my eyes open right now, so I am going to just drop a video and a few quotes and call it a night.   I was going to write on the Yankees offering C.C. Sabathia a 84 years, 150 billion dollar contract,  but i decided to wait until there is actual news beyond a simple offer to buy him and GM and a large stake of AIG from the Yankee front office.  They can afford it.  They’ll just charge $1,000 a beer next year and start a two drink minimum.  No worries.  Seriously tho, Anyone can make an offer, I am more interested in what he accepts and where he actually goes.  I was going to toss in some news about the Space shuttle launch, but i decided to wait until later for that.

Today’s Nuggets, from Thomas Jefferson, via Wikiquote:   Our legislators are not sufficiently apprized of the rightful limits of their power; that their true office is to declare and enforce only our natural rights… and to take none of them from us. No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another; and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him… and the idea is quite unfounded, that on entering into society we give up any natural right.

I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion.

Anagram: Spot The Moron/Monster Photo

I got an interesting comment which i marked as spam from someone claiming to be named sarah, and I thought I would talk about it for a few minutes and tell exactly why.  Some deceitful little asshat sent me this long winded, and for me to say that says something, nasty little turd of a comment about how Barack Obama and his campaign are trying to control the media, try to “dispirit you”.  And “she” plays it like “she’s” an “Obama worker”  In fact the piece is titled “Confessions of an Obama Worker” and I have to tell you it is a weak piece of fiction, for a few reasons.  I’ll post a few sections of it here for your enjoyment, some of it is laughable.  Before Anything this person claims to have been an ex supporter of Hillary Clinton.  Not Buying it.  But I want to speak of other things now.

This first section is about the Obama campaign purposefully attempting to skew poll numbers through “media control”

It’s worked, although the goal was to appear 13-15 points ahead. See, the results have been working. People tend to support a winner, go with the flow, and become “sheeple.”

I have to tell you, it’s nice to see this person thinks I, and anyone else who got this spamlike comment, are stupid.  How can the Obama campaign, or for that matter any campaign, really control a poll whe they cannot control the people who run the poll, pick the people polled, or make them give the answers they want given.

The extra touch of implying that anyone following a winner is a sheep is really nice.  Does that mean I was a sheep when I was rooting for the Yankees when they won all those championships? Was I a sheep when I voted for Bill Clinton? Or Rudy Giuliani? Or Susan Molinari? Please…

The “13-15 point” margin thing is just silly, meant to plant in your head a thought that the Obama campaign is trying, and failing, to move the polls far beyond where they are. The comment mentions Real Clear Politics by name, and not once has Sen. Obama had a higher than a 7.9% lead overall.  Planting the Image of Obama as Failure in your head.  Devious little douchebags.

Next Up. Palin: THE REAL THREAT!

Sarah Palin is a huge threat, and our campaign has feared her like you can’t imagine.

    One Word. BULLSHIT!!!

Next Up.  Bill O’Reilly, That ole’ softy.

trust me, there were meetings with Fox news. The goal was to blunt them as much as possible. Watch Bill O’reilly he has become much more diplomatic and “fair and balanced” and soft. It’s because he wants to retain the #1 spot on cable news and to do that he has to have access to the Obama campaign and we worked hard at stringing him a long and keeping him soft for an interview swap.

Ok this one is easy. Yes there were meetings with fox, a few months ago, and Obama and O’Reilly did an interview. As For Mr. O’Reilly being fair and Balanced, I dunno, I’ve watched the guy on occasion, and there is nothing fair and balanced there.  He’s good if you’re a right wing conservative, but i would not call him fair and balanced, or soft, any more than I would call Keith Olbermann Fair and soft.  Both are Biased, and neither is soft.

Oh, and Bill hasn’t been #1 in a while.  Olbermann’s been whoopin his ass the last few weeks.  Pass bullshit to idiots.  Not me.

Next up. Weirdness.

Our goal is to continue to make you lose your moral. We worked hard at persuasion and paying off and timing and playing the right political numbers to get key republican endorsements to make it seem even more like it was over and the world was coming to an end for you all. There is a huge staff of people working around the clock, watching every site, blogs, etc. We flood these sites. We have had a goal to overwhelm. The truth is here. I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

I especially like the world coming to an end bit. What a dick.

This makes it sound like the Obama campaign seeks some type of unwanted hegemony over the populous.  That i do not see.  There are a great many people who want to see what change this man can bring.  There are also many who don’t, but those who do outnumber those who do not, at least where my eyes look and my ears hear.

Oh BTW, there was an E-mail addy attached to this comment.  I did a search on the name in the e-mail and came up with several hits: gun brokers,  Glock19 Vs. Ruger p-95,  Guns network,  Sarah Palin.  Hmmmmmm… Doesn’t sound too democratic to me.  and a comment from someone named paul in a washington post column bemoaning negative attention the Republicans have received recently, from the same person.

Seems Sarah’s real name is Paul, and is really a Republican.  When you can’t beat’em, cheat’em, Eh Paulie?

I will post the comment in it’s entirety here on November 5th as a comment, with the E-mail address attached.  I saved it just for that purpose.

Anagram: Unconventional/Novel Nun Action

Today, the Third day of the Democratic National Convention, contained the most damning attacks on the worth of John McCain as a candidate.  His alleged strength on National Security has been clearly exposed by the Democrats as a weakness.  It was pointed out that John McCain was wrong about Iraq and Barack Obama was right, that Barack was right about Afghanistan and McCain was wrong.  All of tonight’s speakers were crushing in an emotional plea to America, telling America that if George Bush is bad, and almost everyone agrees that he is, then John McCain, by dint of being of the same mind, and voting for the Policies espoused by The Bush Administration is bad for America….

….and dammit, the Democrats did it right.  Joe Biden and Bill Clinton, along with Evan Bayh, Madeline Albright and a great many other speakers both well known and Unknown made the same point with strength and frequency, that Barack Obama’s policies are better than those of his Opponent in this horse race, That John McCain is, for all intents and purposes, another incarnation of George w. Bush.

I am going to throw a video or two at the bottom of this blog.

The Beginning of the night was just a rip roaring party, a festive little lovefest of each state having a delegate, usually a prominent state leader, sometimes well known, sometimes not, who would tout the states rich heritage, and then tell how many delegate votes each person got…after that is the nomination process, which was basically several important people in the party first nominating and then seconding said nomination.  Pageantry, richly choreographed, and well done.

The touch of having Hillary Clinton speak for the New York delegation and then ask that Barack Obama be named the Democratic Presidential Candidate by acclamation was a really nice touch.  It had the effect of the Clinton’s actually Handing the torch to the Obama’s, very well done.

Noteworthy speeches: Tammy Duckworth, a real American hero, lost both her legs after her helicopter was shot down in Iraq, and is Still Serving her country with two prosthetic legs.  Strong Woman.  To hear her talk about how bad the Bushes have been with the Military,  and how deftly she tied McCain to Bush, from the standpoint of wounded veteran, and of someone still serving, was deeply damning.

Bill Clinton.  In no uncertain terms, he laid the groundwork for the night, which was nothing more than an all out assault on Both George Bush and John McCain from beginning to end.  He blasted McCain, but more importantly, he gave a rousing and strong endorsement of Barack Obama to the raucous crowd in Denver.  He was not necessarily bombastic, but he was strong and hard on Both McCain and Bush, read the transcript here.  For those looking for divisiveness, they need to look elsewhere, there was none of that here.

Joe Biden.  A few verbal gaffes, most notably for me was his saying McCain wanted “$200,000,000 in taxes for corporate America” when he  i think meant “$200,000,000 in tax breaks for corporate America” He had a slip earlier as well, saying:

You know, folks, that’s the America that George Bush has left us. And that’s the America we’ll continue to get if George — excuse me, if John McCain is elected president of the United States of America. Freudian slip. Freudian slip.

Nice. Might not have been as Freudian as he’s letting on but it may well have been. Either way, the effect was large and pronounced. So joined at the hip in his mind are these two, Bush and McCain, that in his mind, he’s mixing up their names.

The speech was well crafted and aside from those two goofs (if goofs they were) was a solid and prolonged attack On John McCain. Read it here.  He REALLY tore McCain a new Asshole near the end of the speech.   Just read the transcript or catch the Viddy.  It’s good stuff.

Today was a good day to be a Democrat.

That’s about it except for the Videos. First up,  Joe Biden:

Next Up, John Kerry Whipping John McCain’s Ass, around 13:00 total run time:

I could not find the Tammy Duckworth speech on youtube, I might post it tomorrow.  we’ll see.

Today’s Nuggets, Via Wikiquote:  In the case of a word like DEMOCRACY, not only is there no agreed definition, but the attempt to make one is resisted from all sides. It is almost universally felt that when we call a country democratic we are praising it: consequently the defenders of every kind of régime claim that it is a democracy, and fear that they might have to stop using the word if it were tied down to any one meaning. Words of this kind are often used in a consciously dishonest way. That is, the person who uses them has his own private definition, but allows his hearer to think he means something quite different.   George Orwell

All deductions having been made, democracy has done less harm, and more good, than any other form of government. It gave to human existence a zest and camaraderie that outweighed its pitfalls and defects. It gave to thought and science and enterprise the freedom essential to their operation and growth.               I’ve Been watching the Convention since it started again.  Same issues with CNN and MSNBC and the other stations claiming “wall to wall” coverage.  Wall to wall apparently meaning covering themselves talking to themselves about what interests them.  These Convention’s are sponsored by Big Business. It is no surprise that the early speakers, who were very anti-big business, got no coverage.  And on top of it all, During speeches by I forget who, but it was around 6:00p.m. first CNN and then MSNBC had Mitt Romney speaking….AT THE CONVENTION SITE ITSELF!!!  NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!  How can you, In the Middle of speeches at the DEMOCRATIC Convention, have HIM there?  I can’t get it out of my head that these pricks are shilling for the Republicans.  There’s only one way to make this up to the Dems.  Have Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton at the RNC In the Convention center During speeches.  Anything less is grossly unfair.
But there was one hero for the early speakers.  Dennis Kucinich.

I knew the man was a strong principled smart man who had the courage of his convictions, but today he showed a side I didn’t expect and frankly hadn’t seen.  That of Rabble Rouser.  This man, when he was speaking, gave a speech that was less a speech and more a call to arms.  He didn’t stand still.  He didn’t speak in measured tones like most of the rest of the speakers, He YELLED, he cajoled, he got the crowd fired up.  He was excited, he was angry, and he let EVERYONE know it.  CNN was in commercial when he started, as was msnbc.  Pissed me off.  went back to C-Span. Listened to Denny Give’em hell.  Oh man he was GREAT. (he does need to work the fist-pump though)  He MADE CNN and MSNBC stand up and take notice.  They picked up the last minute or so of his speech.  They couldn’t ignore him, he deafened them, forced them to cover him.  I’ll post the Viddy at the bottom of this blog.

Mind you for every great speech today, there were bad speeches.  Ted Sorensen seemed almost asleep at the wheel, If Jim Leach was bland yesterday, Mr. Sorenson was ultra-bland today.  Everyone was on message …  well … almost.  I am disappointed in my Governor, David Paterson.  He was giving a short 5 minute speech, which was pretty good up to nearly the end of it, but his near total blindness caught up with him, He was trying to make a point of the “McCain bad, Obama Good” things.  Near the end of the speech, he goofed and switched up the names.  Said that Obama was more of the same, and McCain was change.  OOPS.  I’ll post it at the bottom of this post.  You know he didn’t mean it like that, but you also know that the Republicans are going to use it. Hell, If a Republican screws up like that I know I would use it against them.  Dammit, that’s not the way to do it though, brother.  You, blind as you are, can correct that kinda thing on the fly, Can’t ya?

Excuse me.  Hillary is about to Jump on the stage. Governor Schweitzer of Montana was firing up the crowd, but he just finished.  This I gotta hear.  …

If That speech she just gave doesn’t convince her supporters to back Barack Obama and the Democrats in the 2008 election, nothing will.  That was an amazingly strong, powerful endorsement of Barack Obama.  She is a great public speaker, and used every trick in the book to make the point that She is backing Barack Obama and that all democrats need to do the same.   She was very persuasive tonight, she had the crowd eating out of the palm of her hand and used it to great effect.  I will say it this way, If there are any who claim to still be voting for McCain because Hillary is out of the race, they were never really Democrats in the first place.  The case against John McCain that she laid out tonight was the single strongest attack On John McCain during the convention so far.  She blasted him with both barrels, she all but said “McCain Sucks!” and had not propriety made it impossible, she probably would have.

I voted for Hillary in February.  I am Voting for Barack Obama In November.

That’s all except the Video.  First up, as promised, David Patterson.  The gaffe I spoke of is almost at the end of the speech, at the 5:19 mark of his speech.

The Hillary speech is not up On YouTube just yet.  But I have a good one here, Dennis Kucinich giving his “WAKE UP AMERICA” Speech.  If your a Dem and this doesn’t get you fired up, check your pulse.

     Thank you Dennis!

That’s It for me.  Later!

Today’s Nugget, from George Orwell: Speaking the Truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act.

Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.
