Before I go over this rounds WILDLY INACCURATE picks, let’s recap the last round and my picks.
#1 Washington Capitals vs. #8 New York Rangers. The pick: Capitals in 6. Reality, Caps won in 5. Nailed this one, The Rangers were lucky to get the one win they got. The Caps offense was stronger than the Rangers O, but that wasn’t offhand difficult, seeing how their offense was sitting in the dressing room with a broken leg, courtesy of a blocked shot off of the stick of Zdeno Chara.
#2 Philadelphia Flyers vs. #7 Buffalo Sabres. The pick: Sabres in 7. Reality; Flyers in 7. Got this one wrong. The Sabres pushed the Flyers to the wall getting to game 7, but once they got there, they fell apart. Dammit.
#3 Boston Bruins vs. #6 Montreal Canadiens. The Pick: Bruins in 5. Reality; Bruins in 7. Right team, wrong amount of games, so I got this wrong. The Canadiens proved to be much tougher than I had given them credit for. I said Carey Price would have issues against the Bruins. Not.
# 4 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. #5 Tampa Bay Lightning. The Pick: Penguins in 7. Reality, Lightning in 7. opposite of the Bruins pick, right amount of games, wrong team, so I’m living up to the whole WILDLY INACCURATE name here. Good on the Lightning for beating a very talented Penguins team.
#1 Vancouver Canucks vs. #8 Chicago Blackhawks. The Pick: Canucks in 6. Reality; Canucks in 7. I said the Canucks would breeze, and said it could just as easily be Canucks in 4. The Blackhawks played the Canucks über hard and pushed them to OT in game 7, and it was in doubt right up to the point of the giveaway 5 minutes into OT that lead to the series winner for Vancouver.
#2 San Jose Sharks vs. #7 Los Angeles Kings. The Pick: Sharks in 5. Reality, Sharks in 6. I think I pretty much nailed this one, sucks I didn’t get to watch any of it. These west coast games are hard to watch for us east coast guys who have to get up early for work. Hint to the NHL: MORE EARLY WEST COAST GAMES.
#3 Detroit Red Wings vs. #6 Phoenix Coyotes. The Pick: Red Wings in 6. Reality; Red Wings in 4. The Wings OWNED the yotes. Maybe now they’ll find some common sense and move to Winnipeg or Quebec. Desert hockey is wrong.
#4 Anaheim Ducks vs. #5 Nashville Predators. The Pick: Predators in 7. Reality; Predators in 6. I think everyone jumped on the Preds bandwagon before it took off to try to run through Anaheim. Anaheim played them tough, won some good games, played them close in the losses, but the Preds played like they belonged where they were.

ONTO THE INACCURACY!
#1 Washington Capitals vs. #5 Tampa Bay Lightning: My Pick, Lightning in 6.
Michael Neuwirth played great against the offensively challenged New York Rangers. He’ll have a tougher time against Steve Stamkos, Marty St. Louis and the rest of Lightning O. Why, despite the fact that the Caps have a pretty damn good O of their own do I think the Lightning have a real advantage here? Dwayne Roloson, that’s why. The man has been lights out against the Caps, pretty much for his entire career, but especially this year. He sports a career 2.11 GAA vs. the Caps, and gave up only 6 goals in 5 games against them, with 4 of those coming in one bad game in February, while tossing 2 shutouts against them. Roloson can contain the Caps.
#2 Philadelphia Flyers vs. #3 Boston Bruins: My Pick, Bruins in 7.
The Flyers are talented, strong, gifted in some ways, and the Bruins had to fight tooth and nail just to get past the Canadiens, but I tell you this, Tim Thomas and the Bruins showed me something after loosing two at home, and going into Montreal with their backs to the wall. These guys want it, they fought like hell for those wins on the road, and that game 6 loss came about because of a pair of 5 on 3’s. The Bruins are going to make a run here.
This Canucks team doesn’t really blow anyone out of the water. They aren’t the team that’ll beat you 6-4 or 5-3. They depend on Roberto Luongo to play solid in goal and get a few timely goals from the Sedins or Alexandre Burrows. The Blackhawks having explosive firepower, gave the Nucks fits. The Preds are not as offensively dangerous, and the Canucks should have an easier time here vs the Preds.
#2 San Jose Sharks vs. #3 Detroit Red Wings; My Pick; Red Wings in 6.
Call it a hunch, call it a premonition, but I see this Wings team playing for the Stanley Cup. I don’t think the Sharks will be able to handle the O coming out of Detroit. The Sharks are a damn fine team, Antii Niemei has been great for them, and the O is not weak by any stretch of the imagination, but The Wings are just better. Jimmy Howard is gonna put up a stone wall in front of the net, and the sharks are gonna get shut down.
That’s it from here, America. G’night.
