Fun Watching Other Hockey Teams

Sitting back and relaxing before going to sleep early tonight and waking up at 5 am tomorrow.  In an hour I’ll be asleep, happily oblivious to the worries of the world.

I am enjoying the fact that I have a few minutes to myself.  I have in fact had that most of this weekend, but I know that that will end in a few hours, when I wake up and get ready to go to work in a little while.  That makes the last few minutes of freedom easier to enjoy.

I have been, much like yesterday, watching sports all day, hockey, two games in particular.  The Red Wings victory over the Blackhawks and the Dallas Stars defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Wild.

The Red Wings played a tight and strong game against a very competitive Blackhawks team that did not, in the third period, look like they had any quit in them. The Blackhawks played stronger as the game went on, and simply ran out of time, and lost to a great Red Wings team.

Viddy of the day:  Wild puts Blackhawks into the playoffs. Final minute.

The Dallas Stars however, played nervous, played like a team that was not really ready to play even an average team like the Wild. Their passing was bad, their defense had holes in it, the offense was less than stellar, and though they did have chances they weren’t turning them into anything.

The Stars didn’t deserve the win or the spot in the playoffs, not after that  disappointing display against the Wild.  The Blackhawks pushed hard, played well, and lost to a better team, and deserved that spot in the playoffs, simply with the higher level of play they were able to put on the ice.

A note of little import; The last goal of the regular season in the NHL was an empty net goal scored by Pierre-Marc Bouchard of the Minnesota Wild with 12.2 seconds left in regulation against the Dallas Stars, shot from the left side.
