I Don’t Believe It For A Second

Abnormal is so common, it’s practically normal.

Cory Doctorow

Short article today, and no music.  Sorry, I will get to music soon, my promise, I never break a promise.

Tuesday’s links, w/ a short comment on each story:

Unemployment aid won’t be enough to boost recovery.  It is official, it has passed the senate. And while it won’t necessarily boost the recovery, because it will only inject about 54 billion dollars into the economy, it will help enough people get over the hump and keep them afloat that it will make a vast difference to those 3 million or so people whom this legislation effects.  And if you don’t think that is important, ask those 2 or 3 million people how important it is.

NAACP retracts criticism of USDA worker This story is a hairy mess.  The original video, which was only a shot snippet of a story, made it seem that the woman in question was using race to discriminate against white farmers.  It turns out that this is not the case, and in fact was a story of how she overcame racial stereotypes in her life to help all people.  The tea party and Fox grabbed the small snippet and made it seem like she was racist.  And it seems the Obama administration put some serious heavy handed pressure on her to resign.  The tea party must be jumping for joy over this.

Goodwin joins Senate caucus of short termers  Carte Goodwin, who is replacing Sen. Robert Byrd who was the oldest Senator to serve in the senate, is now the youngest member of the senate at 36, and will serve the shortest of terms.  He is set to only serve for four months, after which time there will be a special election, one in which Governor Manchin is expected to win.  Good luck son, it’s gonna be a rough few months before you go back to your life as a lawyer back in West Virginia.

I write like  This site is a nice little distraction.  What you do is copy and paste or write in some text, it will tell you what writer it thinks you write most like.  I have heard some silly things about this site though.  Someone typed in a sentence in German, and it said that this person writes like Tolstoy, and other people have written random letters  in 5 and 6 letter segments and had it tell them they wrote like Shakespeare.  Still, it isn’t a half bad toy to play with.  I did it 4 times and it told me I wrote like Cory Doctorow twice, and also Harry Harrison and Stephen King.  I don’t believe it for a second, but it’s nice to hear nonetheless.  Cute toy.

Viddy of the day: Cory Doctorow talking about the combination of security and liberty.  The man is brilliant.

No one should do a job he can do in his sleep.

No one should write an article while he needs sleep either, and I am tired.  I am out.  Good night America.
