June Random Thoughts

Once a month or so, I clear out some of the pages and place them here on the blog to make room for fresh content on those pages.  This is June’s random thoughts.  Enjoy!

Reading a book I’ve never read before, and so far the thing is zarking brilliant.  It’s No Logo, by Naomi Klein.  Good stuff.  The kinda book that a guy who normally thinks of advertisers as evil like me can really wrap his head around. (6/9)

Coffee…. Mmmmmmmm. (6/9)

BLACKHAWKS WIN!!!!! YAY!!!  I could not be happier.  As a long-suffering New York Rangers fan, I know a little something about Stanley cup droughts,  I’ve seen one cup in 42 years, and I may have to wait 54 years between cups again, the way Dolan is ruining my fine franchise.  Enjoy this Blackhawks fans, you deserve it.

Plus, You beat the Flyers! That makes this one sweet for me!  THANK YOU BLACKHAWKS!!! (6/10)

I’m going to the Staten Ireland fair in a little while, to bake my brain in the sun, relax with my wife and be Irish at people who are just as, if not more Irish than I am.  Hope it isn’t too expensive, I don’t have a lot of money.  (6/12)

I just realized I like Ethan Hawke.  A quote to explain why ” “You know, it’s easy to get people’s attention with tits and guns. It’s harder to get their attention with ideas. The thing is, I’ve always liked tits and guns,” he said.”

Pinpointed exactly where America and it’s culture is right now, didn’t he?    America, Land of tits and guns!  THERE’S a marketing slogan for the good old U.S. of A!  (6/12)

The president says he’d like to see up to 90% of the spill in the gulf cleaned up by month’s end.  Sounds good to me.  100% would be even better, but if 90% is what we can get, then let’s get after it.  The only problem here is BP.  If they fuck up, that number goes out the window.  And with their current track record, you can almost count on a less than 90% containment by end of June.  BP sucks. (6/16)

I haven’t run since Thursday, I haven’t worked out in a dogs age.  Been sitting on my ass too damn long.  But I did need a bit of a rest.  And it looks like I won’t get a real good long hard run in until Wednesday.  I’ll try to run tonight, but no guarantee that i’ll be able to, and here it is time to start running hills in the insanely blistering summer heat too, in preparation for the Pepper Martin on July 4th.

Sounds like fun.  (6/21)

China signaled it will relax the yuan’s fixed rate to the dollar.  The futures markets are soaring right now, the DJIA is up 131 points at 6:15 am on Monday.  One hopes they can sustain a rally of some kind here, push the market back over 11,000 points, maybe even push the S&P over 1200 at some point soon.

Not counting on it though, too much instability in the market, in particular in Europe.  We’ll see. (6/21)

Broke the arm on my glasses yesterday.  The damn things got caught in my shirt as I was taking it off, and landed on the arm and broke it off completely.  Snapped it in a hard place to fix as well.  I’m wearing an older set of glasses.  Hope it doesn’t give me too much of a damned headache. (6/22)

Today is my last day on the job as a temp at sotheby’s.  If you have a line on any job opportunities, drop me a line.   (6/22)

Futures are down almost 50 points as we near 6:30 am.  When I got up this morning, they were up.  Let’s see … guessing … There it is.  The story about the Euro losing appeal.  And there is an FOMC meeting today. Figures. (6/22)

It is so damn easy to fall back into old patterns of behavior.  Laid off for two days and already I am in front of the computer, paying attention to my fantasy baseball teams, Drinking more than a pot of coffee, looking for work, running when the hell ever I want, and watching C-span, and reading hockey news. Almost like the last 3 months didn’t happen. (6/25)

BP said they would have 90% containment on the well by the end of June.  Wonder how that’s going…. Hmmm…. (6/25)

Been awake since before 8:00 am, had half a pot of coffee, pacing the house with nothing to do. I should have run earlier but didn’t, dammit, and I can’t run now because I have a few things to do relatively soon.  I have a phone call to make to get one of these things done, but I can’t, for reasons I will not go into here, make it yet.  Sore as hell but I think I may work out anyway, just to do something.  (6/26)

I could have written an article yesterday.  Didn’t.  Why?  Because I was relaxing with my wife, and watching the Documentary “Beyond the Lighted Stage” about the Band Rush.  A most excellent piece of work, one that, once I knew It was on, I was not going to miss. Plus, the batteries need a recharge.  I’ve beaten the hell out of myself the last few days, and haven’t had much left for …well … anything.  (6/27)

Looking for work again on a Monday morning for the first time in 3 months.  reworked the resumé, with the help of my wife.  Thanks honey!  There doesn’t see to be much out there … the more things change the more they stay the same or some such statement. 6/28)

Hey!  Glenn Beck wrote a book!  It’s fiction, but he is calling it “faction” completely fictional, yet  based on “facts”.  It’s still fiction though, Becky.   He actually predicted his critics will be fierce and unforgiving.  Dude.  That’s what critics do.  Especially when you write a stinker, like you apparently did.  The reviews are in, and they say it’s a shitty book, not for its viewpoint or its politics, but for its shitty writing.

Advice from one shitty writer to another, Glenn. Stop trying to cover yer ass, bro, it looks bad. (6/28)

Sent a resumé to someone on Craigslist ”A major general contractor” looking for painters and carpenters.  How much experience do I have at either, outside of what you would normally have living in a house and having to do minor repairs?  None.  Told’em as much as well. Told’em I am a quick study, and that I’m willing to work, and asked him to give me a shot.  What’s the worst that happens, he giggles, says “Hell no!”, and deletes it? No sweat off my ass.  If that’s the worst that can happen, I’m OK with it. (6/29)
