Tell me what you think of this video.
Personally I don’t like much of what this guy said. Not that I have a problem with him saying that Americans aren’t rugged individualists. I don’t offhand think he is wrong when he says that people want or expect some kind of “unfunded mandate” It is called helping those who need help. It’s called being humane. No biggie, he doesn’t like it, but then again, he’s a rugged idiot individualist.
I don’t think that everyone spends their money on the good life, and then throw themselves on the mercy of the government to help them live through their golden years. And this man’s use of the word mercy is telling. Mercy. Why would you call it mercy if you’ve paid into it for your entire life? You’ve paid taxes for your entire adult life, a fair bit of it going to social security, and thousands annually in other taxes. Why is it then “mercy” to expect something back on our investment in this government? Mercy? Please.
And what gives with the “When the going gets tough, the tough run to the government”? crap. The point about the taxes paid into the system applies here as well. I have given, for years into the system, should I not expect something in return? Uwe Rheinhardt seems to me to be trying to play to some manly loner virtue, to make people who don’t think the way he does, in his mind, seem inferior.
I think he sounds weak, but that’s just me.
I really like this next viddy.
I especially like the bit at the beginning, where the guy is trying to prove the existence of god through a banana. Stupid all over it. There might be a million valid proofs for the existence of God, but that is NOT one of them. There were probably a million proofs against before this viddy came out. Now there are a a million and one.
Gotta dig the music too.
Good viddy from a good series of viddies, haven’t watched them all yet. I enjoy watching the educational viddies, especially stuff like this. Now I can’t say as I like the God bashing, not because I am especially religious or anything. Just seems not right to continually focus on one target like that…says the big, mean, liberal who regularly beats up on those weak kneed, poor, put upon conservatives.
God’s followers might sometimes be assholes, but that’s no reason to hang them. Everyone wears the asshole hat from time to time. Play nice with the poor schmucks, they need a break, just like everyone else… says the poor out of work schmuck.
That’s it from here. Later!
Accepting the absurdity of everything around us is one step, a necessary experience: it should not become a dead end. It arouses a revolt that can become fruitful. Albert Camus
Without the errors inherent in the postulates of morality, man would have remained an animal. But as it is he has taken himself to be something higher and has imposed stricter laws upon himself. He therefore has a hatred of those stages of man that remain closer to the animal state. Friedrich Nietzsche
