Anagram: Into Distance Let Me Fade/ Some Fanatic Ended Title

Before I get to the Hockey…Calvin and Hobbes Dancing

Been wearing out Saint Anger on  the commute back and forth to work, and I’ve had one particular lyric going through my head (“I’m OK, just go away, into distance let me fade, I’m OK  just go away, I’m OK, please don’t stray too far.” from the Song Invisible Kid) all day.  The melody is hypnotic, the harmony is beautiful, and.. and….I love the song and I can’t say enough about it or this much maligned album.

I’m probably going to harp on that point over and over again. When I find a drum to beat I beat it until I find another one, and when I find one I like I pound it to DEATH.

    To Hockey!

Big doings this day hockey wise.  The Rangers didn’t get Dany Heatley like I wanted, and Marian Hossa went to the Blackhawks yesterday, and a 12 year deal to boot on that one.  What they did is bring a guy with a great shot and great instincts and a scorers touch to the Garden, along with someone to defend him.  The big gun offense here is Marian Gaborik, the 27 year old five time 30 goal scorer who did that while playing in a system not meant for big scorers.  The knock on him is that he is injury prone, and to be honest he is.  He spent most of last year hurt, playing only 17 games, and he has a history of injuries that goes back years.  A Groin injury that kept him out for parts of 2 seasons as well as the  hip surgery he had last year, but he is 100% at this point, or so it seems, so one of the fastest men in the NHL with a devastating shot is coming to New York.

Nice, so long as he keeps the injury bug away.

The second guy we got though…this one bothers me.  Donald Brashear. I’ve never really liked Donald Brashear, this guy is a meathead from the word go.  This is the bum who took out Blair Betts last year in the Playoffs with a late hit that broke Blair’s orbital bone.  This is going to be curious to see him serve out part of his suspension for that hit playing for the team he was playing against when he was suspended.

I don’t like Brashear and it will take a lot from this bastard to get him on my good side.  He better score 40 goals and become one Helluva PK leader or this move simply isn’t worth it.  Gaborik doesn’t need this goon, and neither do Ranger fans.

There is other bad news here.  Talk I am hearing suggests that Blair Betts, one of the most underrated penalty killers in the entire NHL, and a great face off guy may end up playing elsewhere this year.  Blair, if you Read this, Do what you can to stay in New York, brother, we need you at the Garden!

There is still, to my knowledge, some room under the salary cap to bring in people.  A few words to Rangers Management. Keep Betts, Trade Brashear away, and do something like, I dunno, sign Alex Tanguay, although it may be difficult to get anything more out of the Canadiens, after getting Bob Gainey to bite on Scott Gomez.  BTW, Thanks again Bob, for taking all that dead weight off of our hands!

   That’s it from here.  Later!

Today’s Nuggets, completely at random via wikiquote:  … [Slave] trade … is the most shocking violation of the law of nature, has a direct tendency to diminish … liberty, and makes every dealer in it a tyrant, from the director of an African company to the petty chapman [peddler]…. It is a clear truth, that those who every day barter away other men’s liberty will soon care little for their own.  James Otis

If you can manipulate news, a judge can manipulate the law. A smart lawyer can keep a killer out of jail, a smart accountant can keep a thief from paying taxes, a smart reporter could ruin your reputation — unfairly.  Mario Cuomo
