Holy Crap, It’s The Super Bowl! OH NOES! Time for Predictions, But first a Look back at my picks for the AFC and NFC Championship games.
Game 1, NFC Championship game. My Pick: Eagles 34, Cards 24. Actual Score: Cards 32, Eagles 25. LOSE. Philly got their asses handed to them in the first half of this game, in the form of 3 Larry Fitzgerald touchdowns and a Neil Rackers Field goal as time expired in the half. The Second Half was another story, The Eagles put on an offensive show of their own, with two TD passes to Brent Celek and another to Desean Jackson, which gave the Eagles a one Point lead. But it was not to be for the Eagles, as the Cards marched down the field in an almost 8:00 minute drive that ended with an 8 yard scoring strike to Tim Hightower with less than 3 minutes left in the game. Philly got the ball back, but they just could not do it thanks to 4 consecutive incompletions by The Eagles. Whether it was bad passes by McNabb or the Cards Defense I leave for you to decide.
Game 2, AFC Championship game. My Pick: Steelers 21, Ravens 17. Actual Score: Steelers 23, Ravens 14. WIN. This game was the titanic defensive struggle I envisioned it to be. Roethlisberger got his bell rung. Hines Ward got bent like a pretzel fairly early on. Joe Flacco got chased all over the field and his numbers suffered as a result. An 18.2 QB rating. Ouch. MY QB rating was better that day and I was working in an office. But the story of the day was the Defense…that and The CRUSHING blow landed by S Ryan Clark on RB Willis MacGahee. Clark Came in High and hard on the Ravens RB, both men moving at full speed, and damn near killed him. Helmet to helmet contact. Incidental, but it was bad enough where Clark was seeing stars and MacGahee was out cold before he hit the Turf. While Clark got back up after a few minutes, MacGahee stayed down and had to be taken off of the field on a bodyboard and to a hospital. I haven’t heard much news about MacGahee, except the good news that he had movement and was only suffering “significant neck pain” afterwards. Watch the hit here.
It was that big a hit where “significant neck pain” is a GOOD thing.
On with the Prognostication!
I am 4-8 so far in the playoffs, and that is thanks in large part to the Cardinals not going away. I have had the Cardinals losing in each round, and in each round they have made it. Three of those 8 loses is thanks to those Damn Cardinals. And you know what, I won’t underestimate them again. I won’t pick them either, but I won’t Underestimate them.
If these teams play Defense to form this week, the Run game for both teams will be Ineffective. Look for Roethlisberger and The Steelers O to have just a hair more luck and opportunity than the Cardinals O here, and look for the Cards D to come up short. Steelers D will turn this game in their Favor.
Final Score: Pittsburgh Steelers 27, Arizona Cardinals 24.
MVP: Ben Roethlisberger.
That’s It for me. A second Blog later is entirely possible. Later!
