Anagram: That’s What I Get/The Twit Aghast

Smiley FaceThat’s what I get for Saying things are getting better.  In the post I sent a scant few hours ago, I said that The Zimbabwe Election Crisis seemed to be Abating somewhat.  Errr…Lemme try again. The Shit has Just hit the fan.  There has been a Crackdown By Zimbabwean Government Forces On The Main Opposition Party, The MDC.  Four Journalists have been arrested , including one from The new York Times and The offices of The MDC Have been ransacked By Zimbabwean forces, Including those of The Party’s Secretary General Tendai Biti.  Quoting the CNN Story:

“The crackdown came hours after the government announced another delay in releasing the results of last weekend’s election, raising fears that Mugabe is trying to come up with a plan to remain in power.   Mugabe likely will defend his post in a runoff, his party said Thursday, but diplomatic sources said they worry the government may delay the contest, opening the door for corruption.  The concerns surfaced as a member of Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party declared the longtime leader “finished” and said any attempt by Mugabe to cling to his post would be “a suicide mission.” END QUOTE.

Good Lord, I can’t say I’m entirely surprised, But After the relatively peaceful way things were shaking out over the last day or three I was Kind of Hoping that Things would have ended Better then this for Mugabe.  Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday announced that he had Over 50% of the Vote, which is the Magic Number to Win The Presidency without Having to Go through a Run-off Election.  The Official Numbers are still Not out, although we should hopefully, have an official tally soon, seeing how Zimbabwean law states that the Government has 6 days to release the Results. This thing is gonna end up a Gigantic Bloddy mess before it’s over now.  It could have been peaceful, but I just can’t see that happening now.   Ah,well.  That’s how it goes In African Politics Unfortunately.

In Other News, New Jersey Governor John Corzine and U.S. Rep. for Pennsylvania John Murtha, two Prominent Backers Of Hillary Clinton for The Democratic Nomination, say she has to win The Popular Vote for her to Have any chance at winning the Nomination. Quoting the CNN Story:

“Corzine suggested it won’t be enough for Clinton to argue she deserves the nomination because she has won more crucial swing states than Obama — a talking point the senator’s campaign has long argued.  “I think it would be a very hard argument to make,” Corzine said of that position. “I’m a very aggressive supporter of Senator Clinton, but I think you need at least a popular vote.”  Corzine also suggested he himself may cast his superdelegate vote for Obama should Clinton fail to win the popular vote, though the New Jersey governor insisted he thought Clinton would come out on top in that count if the Florida and Michigan contests were counted.  Murtha echoed Corzine’s sentiments in an interview later Thursday, saying, “Clinton has to win Pennsylvania…She has to be ahead in the popular vote to have any chance at all of getting this nomination.” END QUOTE.

Right Now, If you include the Votes In florida and Michigan, Hillary is Down by about 350,000 votes, according to the Self same report.  Which means she will have to win By a fairly large Margin in Pennsylvania and get a Decent %age of the Vote in North Carolina and Indiana.  And with Sen Obama Eating into her lead In Pennsylvania It looks less and less Likely for that to happen, but Things change, we’ll see how Pennsylvania shakes out and go from there. I Think Hill can Do It, But She needs your Help.  If you’re Reading This and You are voting in an Upcoming Primary, VOTE FOR HILLARY!  Thanks!

That’s about it except for:  Today’s Birthday’s:  Happy Happy To Sebastian Bach from Skid Row, Who turns 40 Years Old today, Jack Del Rio, Head Coach Of The Jacksonville Jaguars is 45, Eddie Murphy turns 47 today, and Alec Baldwin Turns 50.  Happy Birthday all!  A Happy wish you were still around to enjoy the Day goes out to Boss Tweed on his 185th b’day Washington Irving on His 225th, and King Henry IV Of England on His 741st Birthday!  Enjoy!

       That’s It for me.  Later!

Today’s Nuggets:  All see, and most admire, the glare which hovers round the external trappings of elevated office. To me there is nothing in it, beyond the lustre which may be reflected from its connection with a power of promoting human felicity.   George Washington

An honest man can feel no pleasure in the exercise of power over his fellow citizens….There has never been a moment of my life in which I should have relinquished for it the enjoyments of my family, my farm, my friends & books.   Thomas Jefferson
